The military and police have increased patrols in volatile communities in Plateau

 

Soldiers and other security personnel, including the police, have increased patrols in the troubled communities of Plateau state. On Christmas Eve, terrorists attacked 25 communities in Bokkos, Mangu, and Barkin Local Government Areas, resulting in the death of over 150 people.

The terrorists also caused significant property damage, displacing more than 10,000 individuals who are now seeking refuge in various IDP camps. Displaced persons expressed their hardship, desiring a return to their communities but facing insecurity concerns.

Kefas Mallai, Chairman of the Community Peace Observers in Bokkos LGA, highlighted the suffering of IDPs in Bokkos and their eagerness to return home. He emphasized the need for security forces to locate and neutralize the terrorists, enabling the safe return of people to their deserted communities.

Plateau State Police Command Spokesman, Alabo Alfred, assured that security patrols and surveillance in Plateau communities will persist until lasting peace is restored. He emphasized the ongoing deployment of personnel to conduct searches and stated that the patrol would continue until a state of permanent peace is achieved.

Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, visited Governor Caleb Mutfwang in Jos, accompanied by service chiefs and top military officers. Matawalle assured that the Federal Government, led by President Bola Tinubu, is committed to preventing terrorists from destabilizing Nigeria. He expressed confidence in overcoming the security challenge and outlined plans for recommendations to address the situation.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang thanked the Minister and the Service chiefs for their visit, highlighting the importance of their efforts to address the security challenges. He discussed the impact of mineral deposits on the security situation in Plateau and expressed optimism that the deployment of armed forces would contribute to restoring lasting peace in the region.
