Nigerian Pastor’s Porn Addiction Remedy Angers Conservative Christians

Renowned Nigerian pastor Dr. Abel Damina of Abel Damina Ministries International has sparked controversy with his remarks regarding the remedy for porn addiction, drawing criticism from conservative Christians. During an interview on Comfort FM’s Righteous Invasion of Truth (RIOT) program in Uyo, Damina advised individuals struggling with pornography addiction not to fight the urge to stop but rather to continue watching porn while simultaneously immersing themselves in the word of God.

In response to Damina’s comments, conservative Christians on social media expressed disapproval, viewing his advice as condoning sinful behavior. Pastor Gideon Odoma of the Fortress Ministry denounced pornography as a perversion and criticized Damina’s teachings, suggesting that they could lead believers astray.

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome also weighed in on the matter, citing biblical scripture to emphasize the sinfulness of pornography and urging Christians to avoid it entirely. He highlighted the correlation between pornography and prostitution, emphasizing the importance of maintaining modesty and avoiding behaviors that promote shame.

Despite the backlash, Pastor Oge of Circle Church supported Damina’s perspective, drawing from his own experience with addiction to argue that struggling against sin is ineffective. He suggested replacing sinful desires with positive alternatives aligned with biblical principles, though he acknowledged that Damina’s message may have been conveyed poorly.

While some defended Damina’s viewpoint, others criticized it as contrary to biblical teachings and moral principles. Nonetheless, Damina’s remarks have ignited a debate within the Christian community regarding the appropriate approach to addressing addiction and sinful behaviors.
