A 1-year-old child is among the four fatalities in a shooting at a Dallas residence

Police are currently searching for an attacker responsible for the deaths of four individuals, including a 1-year-old boy, in a Dallas residence. A teenage girl was also wounded by gunfire and is receiving medical attention. The tragic incident occurred on Sunday afternoon in a southeast Dallas neighborhood. Authorities have emphasized that the violence seems to be an isolated incident, reassuring the public that there is no ongoing threat.

The recent incident in Dallas marked the 627th mass shooting this year, as reported by the Gun Violence Archive. This website tracks shootings nationwide, defining a mass shooting as an event with a minimum of four victims shot, either injured or killed, excluding the shooter.

The child who tragically lost his life in the Dallas shooting has been identified as 1-year-old Logan De La Cruz, according to the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office. Shockingly, Logan became the 272nd child aged 11 or younger to be killed in a shooting this year, as documented by the Gun Violence Archive.

The shooting occurred around 4:20 p.m. on Sunday, prompting police response to reports of gunfire in the 9700 block of Royce Drive, according to a statement from the Dallas Police Department.

When authorities reached the location, they discovered three adults who had succumbed to gunshot wounds inside the residence, along with two children, Logan and a 15-year-old girl, as stated by the police report.

Logan was transported to a hospital, where he later passed away due to his injuries, as confirmed by the police. The unnamed 15-year-old girl, still hospitalized as of Monday, was reported to be in stable condition.

The victims of the shooting were identified by the medical examiner’s office as Vanessa De La Cruz, 20; Karina Lopez, 33; and Jose Lopez, 50.

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the murders, and an ongoing investigation is determining the motive behind the incident.

Dallas has witnessed an approximately 11% increase in homicides this year compared to 2022, based on crime data from the Dallas Police Department. As of Sunday, the city had documented 226 homicides in the year 2023.
