23-year-old woman arrested for shooting her police officer lover in Imo
Imo State police authorities have apprehended 23-year-old Amanda Uchechi in connection with the fatal shooting of her police officer lover.
The incident transpired on Tuesday night within the Ezinihitte-Mbaise area of the state, and the confirmation of the shooting came from Henry Okoye, the spokesperson for the Imo Police Command, on the subsequent Wednesday.
The statement issued by Okoye revealed that on the evening of December 26, 2023, at approximately 18:32hrs, officers from the Ezinihitte-Mbaise Police Area Command responded to the sound of three gunshots originating from the Area Command’s Barracks.

Upon reaching the scene, they discovered Corporal Cosmas Ugwu with gunshot wounds to his chest and hand, lying in his room in a critical condition. Despite being rushed to Evergreen Hospital in Ezinihitte-Mbaise, Ugwu was declared dead by medical personnel, and his body was subsequently deposited in the morgue.
In an expeditious response to the tragic event, Amanda Uchechi Ugo, a 23-year-old resident of Umumbiri in Ahaizu Mbaise LGA of Imo State, was arrested at the crime scene. The authorities tactfully retrieved a pistol with breach number 5199225, assigned to the deceased officer, from her possession.
During interrogation, Uchechi provided a confessional statement, acknowledging that the deceased police inspector was her boyfriend. She admitted to shooting him with the pistol following a heated altercation between them.
The police spokesperson further disclosed that the suspect is currently held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Owerri. The investigation is underway, and upon its completion, Uchechi will be brought before the court for legal proceedings.
