A young woman commit suicide in Adamawa following the death of her boyfriend.
Florence Vandi, a 22-year-old woman from the Viniklang community in the Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa, has reportedly taken her own life.
Vandi is said to have ingested a toxic substance known locally as “Otapiyapiya.” The police spokesperson in Adamawa, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed this incident in a statement issued on Wednesday in Yola.
The young woman, originally from Michika LGA in the state, made the tragic decision after the recent death of her boyfriend, Nuhu Boniface. He had passed away following a brief illness while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Nguroje mentioned that Vandi worked as a health worker at the Girei Primary Health Centre. The Commissioner of Police, Afolabi Babalola, expressed sorrow over the situation and urged the public to refrain from taking matters into their own hands, encouraging them instead to report any suspicious activities in their vicinity.
