2023 CAF Awards, Victor Osimhen has etched his name in history as he was crowned African Player of the Year.

Napoli’s Victor Osimhen has secured the title of 2023 CAF African Player of the Year, making history as the first Nigerian to achieve this honor since Nwankwo Kanu in 1999.

In the competition for the award, the 24-year-old outshone contenders Mohammed Salah of Liverpool and Egypt, as well as Achraf Hakimi of PSG and Morocco.

Osimhen’s outstanding performance during the 2022/2023 season played a pivotal role in Napoli clinching the Serie A title after a hiatus of over three decades. With 26 league goals and a total of 31 across all competitions, he not only won the Golden Boot but also earned the distinction of being the Serie A Player of the Season.

Setting records ablaze, Osimhen surpassed long-standing achievements, including one held by Liberia’s President George Weah, to become the top African goal-scorer in the Italian topflight.

Further attesting to his prowess, Osimhen secured the 8th Best Player ranking at the 2023 Ballon d’Or, surpassing notable names such as Luka Modric, fellow African Mohammed Salah, and Bernardo Silva of Manchester City.
