Tinubu Commemorates Onakoya's Record-Breaking Achievement in World Chess

President Bola Tinubu expressed admiration for Chess master Tunde Onakoya’s remarkable achievement in setting a new world chess record.

In a statement issued by the President’s Spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu praised Onakoya for exemplifying Nigeria’s resilience, self-belief, and ingenuity on the global stage. Onakoya clinched the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon by playing undefeated for over 58 hours at New York’s Times Square, surpassing the previous record set in 2018.

Tinubu hailed Onakoya for not only his exceptional performance but also for his philanthropic drive in raising funds for African children to access education and opportunities through chess.

The President highlighted Onakoya’s achievement as emblematic of Nigeria’s youth population’s determination to overcome challenges and innovate solutions, emphasizing the nation’s capacity for greatness in various fields, from Afrobeats to science and technology.
