Pregnant woman rescued from Ogun kidnappers

The Ogun State Police Command successfully rescued a pregnant woman, whose identity is being withheld, after she was abducted in the Ijebu-Igbo community, located in the Ijebu-North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The incident, which took place on Christmas Day around 11:05 pm, involved a couple being ambushed by a group of gunmen in front of their residence. The assailants kidnapped the pregnant wife, leaving the husband unharmed.

Omolola Odutola, the Police Public Relations Officer for Ogun State, confirmed this development in an exclusive interview with PUNCH Metro on Thursday.

According to Odutola, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Ijebu-Igbo received a distress call regarding a suspected kidnapping incident. In response, a team of policemen was swiftly dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the husband at the location, but the wife had already been abducted.

The husband recounted that, as they were entering their home, six armed men emerged suddenly from the nearby bushes and kidnapped his wife. The DPO, along with his team, collaborated with operatives from the So-Safe Corps, Amotekun, and other agencies to form a rescue team.

After a thorough search through the bush, they successfully located and rescued the woman on the following Tuesday. Subsequently, she was promptly taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

Omolola Odutola revealed that there is a concerning trend where kidnappers are venturing into communities to carry out their operations.

She emphasized the importance of vigilance within the communities and urged traditional rulers and community leaders to establish internal security measures, including monitoring entry and exit points.

Furthermore, she called on residents to provide security agents with crucial information to aid in safeguarding lives and property.

Acknowledging the efforts already made in securing the highways, Odutola stressed the need to address the emerging threat within inner villages.

She assured the public that the Ogun State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner Abiodun Alamutu, is committed to eradicating criminal activities from the state and urged collaboration from all stakeholders in achieving this goal.
