The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has initiated the enforcement of a ban targeting the importation, production, distribution, sale, and consumption of alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets, PET, and glass bottles of 200ml and below. This move, announced by NAFDAC’s Director-General, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye, during a press conference in Abuja on Monday, signifies a concerted effort to regulate the alcohol industry more strictly.

Prof Adeyeye emphasized that effective January 31, 2024, no alcoholic beverage falling within these specified categories holds NAFDAC registration. Furthermore, she highlighted the agency’s commencement of nationwide enforcement actions starting February 1, 2024, following the expiration of the grace period given to manufacturers to sell off their existing stock. This stringent enforcement aims to ensure compliance with the newly implemented policy.
