The Vatican announced on Saturday that Pope Francis has approved the resignation of Archbishop Andrzej Dziega, aged 71, of Szczecin, Poland, who has been implicated in covering up sexual abuse of minors. The archbishop will now enter retirement, according to a statement from the apostolic nuncio representing the Holy See.
Allegations of negligence and cover-ups within the Catholic Church regarding pedophilia have been extensively reported by Polish media. Gazeta Wyborcza reported that the outcomes of two internal ecclesiastical court trials have been forwarded to Rome, signaling a significant development in the ongoing pedophile cases that have shaken Poland.
