Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, Chief of the Air Staff, has greenlit the adoption of a Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy for all members of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).
Despite the Ministry of Defence’s existing Group Life Assurance Policy for military personnel, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, clarified that this policy solely caters to families of personnel lost in action and doesn’t encompass medical expenses arising from accidents.
Gabkwet highlighted that this new policy mirrors the Air Chief’s approach to leadership, striving to uphold a highly motivated force by enhancing welfare standards and renewing infrastructure.
In a statement, he emphasized the need for a specialized insurance scheme to address the specific hazards and challenges encountered in the line of duty by NAF personnel.
Abubakar underscored that the Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy aims to encourage NAF personnel to perform their best, ensuring they receive adequate care in case of disability or death during military operations or accidents.
The insurance coverage, facilitated by KBC Insurance Brokers Limited, extends compensation for bodily injuries, fatalities, disabilities, and medical expenses resulting from accidents.
Gabkwet further outlined that the policy targets diverse hazards encountered during military operations, recognizing the life-changing implications of such incidents. It also extends compensation to families of personnel lost in operations and covers injured personnel’s hospitalization expenses.
This new policy encompasses support for families of personnel lost in action and extends coverage to medical expenses in cases of accidents or permanent disabilities.
Gabkwet summarized, affirming that the Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy is comprehensive, offering support to personnel and their families in the event of death, medical bills, temporary or permanent disability, and fatalities, among other areas.
