Former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba praised President Bola Tinubu for eliminating the petroleum subsidy, highlighting the decision on Arise TV’s Morning Show. When asked about former President Goodluck Jonathan’s similar move in the past, Osoba didn’t directly label Jonathan as a hero.
He emphasized that during Jonathan’s tenure, the subsidy was minimal, and the focus should have been on tackling corruption, which had grown extensively, surpassing previous levels due to round-tripping practices.
Osoba acknowledged his respect for Jonathan, describing him as a gentleman president. President Tinubu announced the scrapping of Nigeria’s fuel subsidies in his inaugural speech on May 29, citing budgetary concerns.
