In a saddening revelation, the Academic Staff Union of Universities in the Abuja zone expressed deep concern over the demise of several of its members, attributing it to the harsh economic conditions prevailing in the country, coupled with inadequate remuneration and unfavorable working environments for academics.
According to the union, a distressing tally of 46 academics has passed away within universities under the Abuja zone, including the University of Abuja, Federal University of Technology in Minna, Federal University in Lafia, Nasarawa State University in Nasarawa, and Ibrahim Babaginda University in Lapai.
The loss of Professor Johnson Oyero, a distinguished figure in Fisheries at the Federal University of Technology in Minna, highlights the dire consequences of the inability to access quality medical care due to financial constraints.
Salahu Muhammed, the zonal coordinator of ASUU in Abuja, conveyed these concerns through a statement provided to correspondents in Abuja.
