Controversial Ugandan pastor shot in alleged murder attempt

A prominent Ugandan pastor and ardent advocate for President Yoweri Museveni found himself in a hospital following a shooting incident that claimed the life of his bodyguard, as revealed by Ugandan authorities on Wednesday.

Aloysius Bugingo was targeted on Tuesday evening when unidentified attackers fired upon his vehicle, swiftly making their escape on a motorcycle, according to the Ugandan police.

The incident prompted an investigation into the “attempted murder of Pastor Aloysius Bugingo” and the tragic killing of his bodyguard, Muhumuza Richard.

Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the son of President Museveni and a potential successor, reassured the public about Bugingo’s condition, stating that he had communicated with the pastor and confirming that Bugingo was doing well.

Kainerugaba disclosed that Bugingo sustained minor injuries to his left shoulder in the attack, which he denounced as a “heinous” act.

Bugingo, heading the House of Prayer Ministries, a prominent Pentecostal church in Uganda, is a controversial figure known for his unwavering support of President Museveni, who has held power since 1986.

The pastor’s allegiance to the president and, more recently, to Kainerugaba has consistently drawn criticism from the opposition, whom Bugingo openly condemns in his sermons.

Despite sustaining injuries during the attack, Bugingo managed to drive the vehicle to Mulago Hospital, according to the police.

Unfortunately, his bodyguard, Muhumuza Richard, succumbed to the assault and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Bugingo is currently undergoing medical treatment and is closely monitored by medical professionals.
