The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria has taken a firm stance, advising doctors not to withhold healthcare services amidst strikes. This directive, conveyed by Dr. Tajudeen Sanusi, the registrar of MDCN, in a letter dated January 4, 2024, specifically targets medical practitioners and dental surgeons across Nigeria. The primary goal is to curb the growing inclination among professionals to use strikes as a means to assert their labor rights.
The warning, communicated to the Committee of Chief Medical Directors, carries the weight of the MDCN’s responsibility in overseeing and regulating the conduct of healthcare providers in the country. It serves as a proactive measure aimed at ensuring uninterrupted access to medical care for patients, irrespective of labor disputes within the healthcare sector.
