The Labour Party has strongly condemned the recent invasion of its party secretariat by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) leadership, headed by Joe Ajaero. Abayomi Arabambi, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, has called for Ajaero’s arrest, accusing him of treason for allegedly orchestrating a political insurrection against the Federal Government. Arabambi expressed concern that such actions could lead to a breach of peace and undermine law and order.
The NLC had instructed its members to mobilize workers and besiege Labour Party secretariats nationwide in protest of the party’s planned national convention. A circular signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the NLC Political Commission demanded the immediate resignation or dismissal of Labour Party National Chairman, Julius Abure, citing alleged financial impropriety and disrespect towards Joe Ajaero, the NLC president.
Despite scores of protesting NLC members attempting to storm the LP national headquarters in Abuja, security personnel prevented their access, maintaining order. At a press conference in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Arabambi reiterated the call for Ajaero’s arrest, vowing to defend the party leadership against what he termed as “NLC political terrorism.” He urged workers to uphold the rule of law and resist unlawful attempts to usurp party leadership.
