Japa: Feel free to leave Nigeria-Bishop Kukah urges Nigerian youths

Bishop Matthew Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto suggested on Saturday that Nigerian youths are welcome to seek opportunities abroad.

Despite this, he highlighted that those who choose to migrate might eventually recognize that Nigeria requires their contributions.

He shared this counsel during the convocation ceremony of Veritas University while addressing the graduating students.

Kukah emphasized the necessity of creating a suitable and supportive atmosphere, enabling those remaining in the country to effectively compete with their international counterparts.

Kukah conveyed the message that individuals aspiring to depart Nigeria should do so without hesitation, emphasizing the vast size of the country.

He assured them that upon settling in the United States of America or any other destination, they would come to realize that Nigeria requires their contributions.

Kukah expressed optimism that those who remain in Nigeria will eventually compete on equal footing with those who have left, asserting that the country possesses all the necessary resources to make significant progress.

This statement follows a call from Daniel Bwala, a media aide to the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, urging the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government to address the growing trend of Nigerians migrating abroad.

Bwala highlighted that individuals from diverse professions are seeking opportunities abroad due to issues such as inadequate compensation, unpaid salaries, and unfavorable working conditions.
