Two dead, seven injured in Sagamu-Benin-Ore Expressway crash

In a devastating incident at J4 along the Sagamu/Ijebu-Ode/Ore expressway, two individuals lost their lives, and seven others sustained injuries in a road crash that transpired on Saturday at 3:35 pm.

The collision involved a Chevrolet SUV with the license plate WWW75MW and a truck identified by the registration number SRA584XB.

Confirmation of the accident was provided by Florence Okpe, the spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who informed the media on Saturday.

Okpe disclosed that among the casualties, six men and one woman sustained injuries, while one man and one woman tragically lost their lives in the collision.

According to Okpe, preliminary investigations point to excessive speed and road obstruction as the suspected causes of the crash.

Reportedly, the driver of the Chevrolet SUV collided with the stationary truck due to speeding.

The injured victims were fortunate to receive timely assistance from a compassionate driver who was traveling behind them. This Good Samaritan transported the wounded individuals to the hospital for urgent medical attention.

Meanwhile, the deceased were taken to the state General Hospital morgue in Ijebu-Ode by FRSC operatives.

In response to the incident, Florence Okpe quoted the Sector Commander of the FRSC in Ogun, Anthony Uga, who urged motorists to exercise caution while driving.

Uga emphasized the importance of adhering to stipulated speed limits, especially during periods of heightened vehicular movement.

The tragic accident serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences of negligence on the road, reinforcing the need for responsible driving practices among all motorists.
