87 Chibok girls are still captive with Boko Haram, as stated by a representative

Ahmed Jaha, the representative for Chibok, Domboa, and Gwoza in the House of Representatives, highlights ongoing captivity of 87 Chibok girls despite commendable recovery efforts.

In a recent statement, Ahmed Jaha, the member representing Chibok, Domboa, and Gwoza in the House of Representatives, disclosed that 87 Chibok girls remain in captivity following the Boko Haram attack on the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok on April 14, 2014.

Although 276 girls were kidnapped initially, 57 managed to escape immediately, and others have been rescued by the military.

Speaking at an event in Abuja organized to showcase Chibok’s culture to children and youths unable to witness such events due to terrorist activities, Jaha commended the Federal Government for the recovery of some girls.

However, he emphasized the urgency of addressing the remaining captives, urging increased security measures in areas still affected by insurgency.

Jaha expressed gratitude for the return of peace to some parts of Chibok but stressed that certain communities continue to be occupied by terrorists.

Describing Chibok as “relatively safe” but acknowledging persistent security challenges, he appealed to the Federal Government to provide security in areas where it is currently lacking.

During the event, organized by the Abuja Chairman of the Kibaku (Chibok) Area Development Association, Nkeki Mutah, Jaha underscored the significance of preserving cultural heritage.

He emphasized that the event aimed to keep children and youths, displaced by terrorism for almost one and a half decades, connected to their cultural roots.

Nkeki Mutah, the Abuja Chairman of the Kibaku (Chibok) Area Development Association, explained that the event was not merely a festivity but a means to inform and remind displaced youths of their cultural identity and heritage.
