Katsina Governor participates in military operation to rescue kidnapped civilian and thwart bandits’ assault
The Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, actively participated in preventing an assault on Zakka village in Safana Local Government Area by joining forces with a combined team of security personnel and military troops on Saturday.
In the course of the coordinated operation, Governor Radda personally observed the rescue of a 33-year-old man who had been kidnapped by armed bandits, as reported in a statement by Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed.
Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, serving as the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Governor Radda, conveyed that the governor was in Safana local government on Saturday to inaugurate an empowerment program supported by the Deputy Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly.
While engaged in this official duty, Governor Radda received a distress security call alerting him to a potential terrorist attack on Zakka village.
Upon receiving intelligence about a planned terrorist attack around 1 pm, Governor Radda promptly canceled his participation in the Deputy Speaker of the Katsina House of Assembly’s empowerment program.
Instead, he, along with a limited group from his entourage, joined forces with a combined team of security personnel.
This team included members of the Nigerian Police, the Air Component of Operation Hadarin Daji, ground troops from the Nigerian Army, and personnel from the Community Watch Corps. Their mission was to confront the terrorists in Zakka Forest before they could advance to the hills.
In a courageous engagement lasting nearly 30 minutes, the gallant troops successfully rescued a 33-year-old man from the clutches of the terrorists.
Despite a heavy gun battle, the terrorists managed to escape without any casualties after their nefarious mission was thwarted.
Following the expulsion of the bandits, Governor Radda directed that the rescued man, who had sustained a gunshot wound to the leg during the confrontation, be immediately taken to the hospital for urgent treatment.
During interviews with various individuals in the area, a consensus of joy and relief was expressed over the governor’s swift response.
They conveyed hope for the continuity of such decisive actions, emphasizing that Governor Radda’s commitment to combating insecurity in the state had been vividly demonstrated through this incident.
