The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero, has expressed concerns over the persistent inflation, suggesting that if it continues unchecked, organized labor might advocate for a new minimum wage reaching up to N1 million for Nigerian workers.
Ajaero highlighted that such a demand would be driven by the escalating cost of living, particularly noticeable since President Bola Tinubu took office, attributed in part to the removal of fuel subsidies and other governmental policies.
Speaking on Arise News during a Sunday evening interview, the NLC president emphasized, “The relevance of this N1 million proposal hinges on the ongoing depreciation of the Nigerian currency and the unchecked inflation. Labour’s demands are intrinsically linked to societal circumstances.”
