ITF remains committed to enhancing skills development in Nigeria

The Director-General of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Dr. Afiz Ogun, has affirmed the organization’s commitment to fostering skills development in Nigeria, aligning with its mandate.

This announcement was made during the 2023 graduation ceremony of the ITF – NECA Technical Skills Development Project (TSDP) and the Agri-preneurship Skills Empowerment Programme in Jos on Tuesday.

Dr. Ogun emphasized the crucial role of relevant skills in national progress, stating that a workforce lacking the necessary skills hinders a country’s advancement.

He underscored the significance of technical and vocational skills training as a key platform for driving comprehensive socio-economic development.

Expressing concern over Nigeria’s challenges, Dr. Ogun linked issues such as insecurity, poverty, and other societal problems to the absence of essential skills in the workforce.

He portrayed skills development as the core of developmental initiatives and highlighted ITF’s commitment to addressing this gap by implementing various interventions, including the TSDP and Agri-preneurship Skills Empowerment Programme, designed to train Nigerian youths.

Encouraging the beneficiaries of these programs, the director-general urged them to leverage the acquired skills effectively. He emphasized that doing so would empower them to be self-employed and contribute to job creation, thereby addressing some of the pressing issues facing the nation.
