The Acting Chairman of the PDP, Damagum, discloses the scheduled date for sanctioning Wike and others, labeling them as rebels.

The acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Umar Damagum, has announced that the party will soon take punitive measures against individuals, including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who allegedly worked against the party’s interests in the 2023 general election.

Damagum referred to Wike and his associates as rebels during a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, addressing concerns raised by PDP stakeholders about sanctioning those involved in anti-party activities.

This development coincides with the call from some PDP stakeholders urging Damagum to take action against Wike and others for their alleged anti-party activities during the recently concluded general elections.

Notably, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory has also been implicated in the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, a state controlled by the PDP.

Damagum emphasized the need to maintain stability within the party and expressed his commitment to avoiding unnecessary crises. He stated that while the party would act if things go out of hand, they would adhere to legal processes. Damagum stressed that the party would not tolerate anyone, including Wike, who thinks they are above the party.

The acting Chairman clarified that Wike has never disassociated himself from the PDP and pointed out that the party’s upcoming 2023 review committee, yet to be inaugurated, would assess the situation and recommend appropriate sanctions for those involved in anti-party activities.

The committee’s mandate is to review the events of the 2023 elections and present a comprehensive report, addressing not only individual cases but all instances of anti-party behavior.

It’s worth recalling that Wike, the former governor of Rivers State, along with four other governors known as the G5-governors, opposed the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Their disagreement centered around the appointment of Iyorichia Ayu from the north as the party chairman while the presidential ticket went to another northerner, Atiku.
