Shops and a viewing center were destroyed in a tanker fire in Kwara
A diesel tanker fire on Saturday wreaked havoc in the Ilorin metropolis, Kwara State, as it engulfed two shops and a football viewing center.
The incident occurred around 10:47 a.m. in Magaji Aare quarters, Ajegunle, within the Idi-Ape area of Ilorin East Local Government Area.
Reports indicate that the fire originated from a pumping machine used for transferring diesel from a tanker lorry to a container located near a mast owned by a telecommunications company.
Hassan Adekunle, a spokesperson for the state Fire Service, revealed that the estimated value of saved property was N145.2 million, while the total loss amounted to N34.6 million.
The fire service responded promptly to the scene, confronting a tanker fire containing 22,000 liters with registration number MUS 916 YF. Unfortunately, the intense flames led to the destruction of two shops and a football viewing center.
In a statement, Adekunle urged the public to exercise caution, particularly during the festive period, and stressed the importance of promptly contacting the fire brigade in case of any fire emergency in their vicinity.
