The people of Nigeria are its most valuable resource, according to Shettima

Senator Kashim Shettima, the Vice President, mentions that President Bola Tinubu’s government is focusing on investing in human capital and related sectors because the most valuable asset of Nigeria is its people.

The Vice President shared these comments at the Barewa Old Boys Association (BOBA) Annual Lecture and Awards ceremony in Abuja last weekend, as reported by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha, on Monday.

“We seek the support and trust of all Nigerians. In return, we have committed to guiding the nation in constructing a less challenging economy, despite the existing difficulties that we wish could have been avoided,” he remarked.

He emphasized, “Nigeria’s most valuable asset is its people. We must rediscover and impart essential values like service, honesty, and hard work to our young generation. As an administration, we have clear priorities that we believe must be accomplished.”

Vice President Sen. Kashim Shettima emphasized that the Tinubu administration is giving priority to investing in human capital and related areas because Nigeria’s most valuable asset is its people. The Vice President made these comments during the Barewa Old Boys Association (BOBA) Annual Lecture and Awards ceremony in Abuja over the weekend.

He commended the organizers for selecting a theme that broadens the understanding of the opportunities and challenges where citizens and the State intersect.

Speaking on behalf of the Vice President, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters (Office of the Vice President), highlighted in the Vice President’s speech that the chosen theme for the Annual Lecture provides a deeper insight into the opportunities and challenges at the intersection of citizens and the State.

He stressed that the trajectory Nigeria takes will be influenced by the quality of the country’s human resources.

Baba-Ahmed stated, “We carry the weight of past and present challenges that will require significant efforts to overcome. Simultaneously, we are beckoned by greatness, for which we have been well-prepared by our abundant human and other resources. The crucial factor in determining our path lies in the quality of our human assets.”

“The decisions we make today will play a crucial role in determining whether we simply continue to increase our population or if we build a robust economy that can support and enhance the quality of life for a large citizenry.

This entails investing in the development of our population through effective education, accessible healthcare, informed access to technological opportunities, and the sustainable growth of our natural resources.”

Highlighting the importance of good governance and national security, Vice President Shettima emphasized the need for the support of Nigerians. In return, the Tinubu administration commits to working towards the establishment of a more manageable economy.

He further stated, “Prioritizing good governance and security is essential for inclusive development and the advancement of the democratic process. Given the current circumstances, Nigeria has no option but to think and act decisively.

We seek the support and trust of all Nigerians, and, in return, we are dedicated to leading the nation in building a less challenging economy, despite the current unavoidable hardships.

Nigeria’s most valuable asset is its people, and we must rekindle and instill in our youth wholesome values such as service, honesty, and hard work. As an administration, we have well-defined priorities that we are committed to achieving.”

Senator Shettima conveyed confidence that, under President Tinubu’s leadership, the nation will surmount its existing challenges and “establish the groundwork for sustainable growth and the security of citizens and communities.”

He added, “We must contend with the resources at our disposal. To emerge victorious in the quest to become a great nation, we cannot allow setbacks and constraints imposed by our past and present circumstances to dishearten us. As a resilient and resourceful people, we must harness these qualities to construct a robust economy and a country that our youth will take pride in.”
