Two fatalities occurred in a crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

Two people lost their lives in a road accident that occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Christmas day, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

The accident, which happened after Sagamu Interchange, before the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Camp in Mowe, Ogun State, involved an 18-seater Hiace bus and a Mazda bus.

The FRSC spokesperson in Ogun State, Florence Okpe, said the accident was caused by wrongful overtaking and speeding on the part of the Hiace bus driver, who was travelling from the interchange to Mowe.

She said the crash occurred at about 5:20 pm and involved 15 people, comprising 12 male adults and three female adults.

“One person was injured and two persons were recorded dead (two male adults). The injured victim was taken to Idera Hospital for medical attention and the corpses were deposited at the same hospital’s morgue,” she said.

She added that the FRSC officers had evacuated the bodies and cleared the road for free flow of traffic.

Meanwhile, the Sector Commander of the FRSC in Ogun, Anthony Uga, has advised motorists to shun speed and give maximum attention while driving, especially during the festive season.

He also sympathised with the families of the victims and advised them to contact the FRSC in Sagamu for more information about the crash.
