The Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, has unveiled plans to facilitate the marriage of 100 female orphans who lost their parents to banditry attacks in Mariga Local Government Area. Speaking to reporters in Minna, the state capital, Sarkindaji revealed his commitment to covering the bridegroom’s dowries and has arranged all necessary provisions for the mass wedding ceremony.
These initiatives come as part of Sarkindaji’s constituency empowerment project, aimed at alleviating the hardships faced by the underprivileged. From a pool of 170 girls, carefully selected, the Speaker did not disclose the age range of the orphaned girls set to be wedded.
Furthermore, Sarkindaji shared that the Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago, and the Emir of Kontagora, Alhaji Mohammed Barau, will serve as guardians to the female orphans during the mass marriage ceremony. The event, scheduled for May 24 at Bangi, the headquarters of Mariga Local Government Area, will also see the attendance of the Kano State Commander General of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Daurawa.
