The court overturned a lower court’s dismissal of terrorism charges against Kanu on December 15, 2023, stating that the government violated his rights. Despite criticizing the government’s actions, the Supreme Court emphasized the necessity for the legal process to proceed.

Over a month since the verdict, neither Kanu’s legal team nor Kanu himself has received the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgment. Kanunta Kanu, the head of the Kanu family, emphasized in a statement on Sunday that the Supreme Court’s delay in releasing the CTC was undermining subsequent legal actions.
