The IG of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has directed the reassignment of 54 Assistant Commissioners of Police to oversee the Force Intelligence Departments at both zonal and state command levels nationwide. This move comes in response to the recent upsurge in kidnapping and banditry across the country, particularly in Abuja and Kaduna State.
In 2022 alone, bandits and criminals carried out 194 attacks, resulting in 69 fatalities and 152 abductions in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), according to data compiled from media reports and Beacon Consulting, a prominent indigenous intelligence firm. The decision to redeploy ACPs aims to strengthen the intelligence capabilities of the Nigeria Police Force, as emphasized by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement released on Tuesday.
