Eleven onion traders lose their lives in a car accident in Kebbi
A tragic incident unfolded in Kebbi State as a group of eleven onion traders, hailing from Goronyo in Sokoto State, met with a fatal motor accident.
The traders were en route to Niger State, transporting bags of onions, beans, six motorcycles, and carrying sixty-five passengers.
The unfortunate event occurred in the Koko/Besse local government area of Kebbi state, where the truck’s head separated from the main body. The detached section veered off the road, careening into a nearby bush.
Tragically, eleven individuals lost their lives in the accident, and several others sustained injuries. The injured victims have been promptly taken to the hospital for urgent medical attention.
This incident serves as a poignant reminder of the inherent risks and uncertainties associated with transportation, particularly in precarious conditions.
Upon receiving the report, SP Nafiu Abubakar, the spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police, revealed that a rapid response team from the traffic police was promptly dispatched to the accident site.
The team swiftly transported the victims to the hospital, where a medical professional confirmed the unfortunate demise of 11 individuals.
In response to the incident, CP Chris issued a cautionary message, urging drivers to refrain from both overspeeding and overloading their vehicles, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing safety to prevent such tragic occurrences.
He expressed heartfelt condolences for the departed souls and extended wishes for the swift recovery of those injured.
The police commissioner concluded by offering prayers for the repose of the deceased and the well-being of the injured, highlighting the gravity of the situation and the need for collective efforts to enhance road safety.
