The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities has issued a stern warning of nationwide disruptions in university activities unless their withheld salaries are promptly disbursed. This action follows the Federal Government’s decision to only commence payment for the Academic Staff Union of Universities on Monday, leaving SSANU members excluded from the process. Prof. Gbolahan Bolarin, the ASUU chair at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, confirmed the initiation of payments, signaling a growing discontent among SSANU members over the perceived neglect by the government.
Amidst this tension, SSANU’s threat underscores the urgency for equitable treatment and fair compensation for university staff. The looming prospect of widespread protests reflects the frustration within the academic community and highlights the need for swift resolution to prevent further disruptions in the education sector.
