The Federal Government announced on Wednesday that maintaining subsidies for electricity has become increasingly challenging due to the escalating power debt in the country.
Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, emphasized the necessity of transitioning towards a more sustainable tariff structure. He disclosed that Nigeria’s outstanding debt to electricity generating companies stands at N1.3 trillion, with an additional $1.3 billion owed to gas companies. The minister addressed these concerns during a press conference in Abuja, joined by the leaders of various agencies under the Federal Ministry of Power.
