In 2023, the Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Units Zone A in Ikeja, revealed that they confiscated contraband items valued at N10 billion, totaling 1,119 seizures. Hussein Ejibunnu, the Customs Area Controller, shared these findings during a press briefing on Wednesday. Among the seized items were 83,170 bags of foreign rice, equivalent to 139 trailers, within the specified timeframe.
Throughout the previous year, our seizures tallied up to 1,119, amounting to a duty paid value of N10,395,123,943. These included various items like foreign rice, vehicles, marijuana, tramadol, used tires, poultry products, footwear, and petroleum items. Notably, the standout among these was the confiscation of 83,170 bags of foreign parboiled rice, equaling 139 trailer loads.”
