The EFCC has seized the passports of the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, and her predecessor, Sadiya Umar-Farouq, amid ongoing investigations into ministry scandals. Edu was still under questioning by EFCC investigators as of the latest report, having arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja at 10 am on Tuesday and continuing until 7 pm. Additionally, three commercial bank managing directors were questioned by the EFCC on Tuesday regarding the uncovered N44 billion fraud within the ministry.
Edu’s scandal unfolded following a leaked memo showing the suspended minister instructing the Accountant-General of the Federation, Oluwatoyin Madein, to transfer N585 million to a private account owned by Oniyelu Bridget. The ministry asserted that Bridget currently holds the position of Project Accountant for Grants for Vulnerable Groups.
