[Breaking] Akeredolu’s body returns from Germany
Nine days after the passing of Ondo State’s late Governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, his body arrived in Nigeria on Friday.
The news was shared in a Facebook post by the former Chief Press Secretary to the late governor, Mr. Richard Olatunde. Akeredolu, aged 67, succumbed to a prolonged illness in Germany on December 27, 2023.
According to Olatunde, the plane carrying the late Governor’s remains landed at approximately 3:39 p.m. on Friday, January 5, 2024.
The reception party included Akeredolu’s wife, Chief Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, children, siblings led by Prof. Wole Akeredolu, and representatives from Lagos, Ogun, and Osun states.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, represented by Chief of Staff Mr. Tayo Ayinde, and Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, joined in receiving the body.
Ade Adetimehin, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State, and other dignitaries were also present at the airport.
Emotions ran high as the late Governor’s body was lowered from the plane. The remains were then taken to the morgue, awaiting final burial arrangements, details of which will be announced by the family at a later date, as stated by the former governor’s aide.
