Mrs. Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi, the Mandate Secretary of the FCT Women Affairs Secretariat, announced that the Federal Capital Territory Administration has closed down the Priesthood Orphanage in Karonmajigi. This action follows the rescue of 23 children, aged 1 to 14 years, from Plateau state, who were allegedly trafficked to the orphanage.
Speaking to the press on Monday, Benjamins-Laniyi disclosed that the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, granted authorization to the Secretariat to assess and re-evaluate orphanages operating in the capital.
She stated, “As of yesterday, the orphanage was immediately sealed off. While we have identified the proprietor, we are refraining from disclosing names at this time for legal reasons. Once the comprehensive investigation concludes, we will officially publish the findings and actions taken.”
Benjamins-Laniyi emphasized the seriousness of the matter and the ongoing efforts to ensure accountability and intervention in this situation.
