Tiv Traditional Council Reconciles Akume and Alia

In a significant development on Monday, the Tiv Traditional Council successfully mediated peace talks between Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume. The two prominent figures, who were previously close political allies, had been embroiled in a bitter feud over the political leadership of the North Central state.

Tensions escalated notably when Governor Alia inaugurated a factional All Progressives Congress State Executive Council, prompting police intervention to avert potential violence at the APC state secretariat. Concerned by the escalating crisis, the Tiv paramount ruler, Prof James Ayatse, alongside the Traditional Council, intervened, inviting both leaders to discuss and resolve their differences.

Following a closed-door meeting held in Gboko, the headquarters of the Tiv race, Governor Alia and Senator Akume agreed to set aside their political disputes and collaborate for the advancement of Benue State. Ayatse emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation, noting the leaders’ commitment to fostering peace and progress in the region. Both parties expressed their determination to uphold their promises and work together harmoniously moving forward
