Tinubu fires FCCPC and BPE CEOs

President Bola Tinubu has terminated the appointments of the Chief Executives of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) and the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE).

According to a statement by Presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale on Monday, the dismissal of Babatunde Irukera from his role as the FCCPC EVC/CEO and Alexander Ayoola Okoh from BPE is part of a broader initiative to restructure and reposition key federal agencies.

The restructuring aims to safeguard the rights of Nigerian consumers and strengthen the contributions of vital institutions to the nation’s economy.

The statement outlined the specific removal of Mr. Babatunde Irukera and Mr. Alexander Ayoola Okoh from their positions, directing them to hand over their responsibilities to the next most senior officer in their respective agencies.

The President’s directive for their removal takes immediate effect, pending the appointment of new Chief Executive Officers.

Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve, Babatunde Irukera took to social media to convey his appreciation. Late on Monday, he shared his thanks for the chance to serve the vibrant and loyal Nigerian citizens and consumers.

He emphasized the need for a better deal for them and highlighted the enduring legacy of a robust institutional advocate in the FCCPC, along with an exceptional team dedicated to promoting fair markets.
