Tinubu and other individuals express grief as the revered Baba Adinni of Lagos, Shaykh Abdul-Hafeez Abou, passes away at the age of 101

 

The Baba Adinni of Lagos and Chairman of the Executive Council of Lagos Central Mosque, Shaykh Abdul-Afis Aṣamu Abou, passed away at the age of 101. The demise occurred on the night of Tuesday, January 9, 2024. Reports indicate that the funeral (Janazah) will take place today, Wednesday, January 10, at 2 pm in the Lagos Central Mosque.

The news of Shaykh Abou’s passing was conveyed by Disu Kamor, the Executive Chairman of the Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC). In a statement, MPAC expressed deep condolences to the honorable family and the entire Muslim community of Lagos State.

The organization mourned the loss of the eminent scholar, praying for Allah’s mercy upon him. MPAC also extended prayers for the deceased’s family, community, students, and admirers, emphasizing the significant loss to the Ummah, particularly the Muslims of Lagos State.

Condolences for Shaykh Abou have been pouring in, with President Bola Tinubu expressing sorrow over the news. Tinubu condoled with the deceased’s family, the Muslim community in Lagos, and the Lagos State Government.

The President celebrated Shaykh Abou’s inspiring legacy of service, duty, and sacrifice, highlighting his remarkable contributions to the Muslim Ummah and beyond. Tinubu praised Baba’s exemplary life and urged others to uphold his values of honesty, dignity, and sacrifice.

The President concluded with a prayer for Almighty Allah to grant Shaykh Abou the highest station in Al-Jannah Firdaus.

Senator Idiat Adebule, representing Lagos West District, also extended condolences to Shaykh Abou’s family, the Muslim community, and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. She expressed gratitude for Baba’s worthy life and described him as a thoroughbred scholar whose influence transcended national boundaries.

Adebule emphasized the great loss Nigeria has suffered, noting Baba’s humility, knowledge, and wisdom. She prayed for Allah’s forgiveness for Shaykh Abou and strength for the immediate family to bear the loss, highlighting his contributions to the Muslim community and the nation.
