Supreme Court confirms Sule as Nasarawa governor

The Supreme Court has upheld the victory of Abdullahi Sule as the governor of Nasarawa State.

Initially, the state election petition tribunal had nullified Sule’s election and proclaimed David Ombugadu, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, as the rightful winner of the March 18, 2023, election.

However, the appellate court reversed this decision, reinstating Sule. The court emphasized that the tribunal had erred in relying on the testimony of eight PDP witnesses, as their statements on oath were not submitted alongside the petition.

Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, delivering the lead judgment, declared that the appeal lacked merit. Consequently, Abdullahi Sule’s election victory stands affirmed by the highest court in the land.
