In Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) reported the destruction of four illegal oil refining sites located in Cawthome Channel One. The intervention came after the corps received intelligence that suspected oil thieves had vandalized infrastructure, including pipes belonging to Sahara Oil, with the aim of setting up illegal refining facilities. NSCDC spokesperson for the Rivers State Command, Olufemi Ayodele, revealed these details in a statement issued on Monday night in Port Harcourt, stating that the action was taken by the marine unit based on gathered intelligence to halt the illicit activity and potentially apprehend the suspects.
The NSCDC’s decisive action aimed at curbing illegal oil activities underscores the importance of proactive measures in safeguarding critical infrastructure and preventing environmental damage caused by illicit refining operations. The Corps remains committed to enforcing security and protecting vital resources in the region.
