The Scripture Union Nigeria issued a resolute call to action on Saturday, urging the Federal Government, lawmakers across all governmental levels, and various Christian organizations to stand firm against the push for legalizing lesbianism and bisexuality. This plea came during a press conference held at the union’s headquarters in Samonda, Ibadan, with Wilfred Onu, the union’s National Chairman, spearheading the message.
Accompanied by the union’s General Director, Uwem Udoh, Onu emphasized the grave consequences such legislation could bring on a global scale. He voiced deep concern over the apparent societal acceptance of these practices, which starkly contradict biblical teachings. Onu also highlighted the legal ramifications outlined in the Same-Sex Marriage Prohibition Act of 2014, as well as various state statutes criminalizing such behaviors within Nigeria.
Expressing alarm at the propagation of LGBTQ+ ideologies by certain religious and political leaders, particularly in Western nations, Onu stressed the imperative for action. He emphasized the Scripture Union’s commitment to upholding traditional Christian values and principles, denouncing the LGBTQ+ movement as immoral and contrary to biblical teachings. The union called upon the entire Christian community to steadfastly advocate for God’s message of love and redemption while rejecting ideologies that contradict the Holy Bible’s teachings.
