S’Court reserves judgment in Nasarawa gov poll
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court reserved its judgment in the appeal brought forth by the Peoples Democratic Party challenging the appellate court’s decision to reinstate Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule.
The five-member panel, led by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, adjourned the proceedings after hearing arguments from the counsels involved. Justice Kekere-Ekun mentioned that parties would be informed of the judgment’s readiness.
Initially, the state election petition tribunal had removed Governor Sule, declaring David Ombugadu of the PDP as the winner of the March 18, 2023, election.
The tribunal, led by Ezekiel Ajayi, with a split decision of two-to-one, concluded that the PDP candidate substantiated claims of manipulated poll results favoring Sule.
However, the appellate court reinstated Governor Sule, stating that the tribunal erred in relying on the evidence of eight PDP witnesses whose statements were not included with the initial petition. Despite this, Ombugadu appealed the decision at the Supreme Court.
