During Tuesday’s plenary session, members of the Ogun State House Assembly voted to impeach Speaker Olakunle Oluomo. The decision was accompanied by allegations of his involvement in embezzlement of funds, as asserted by members of the Assembly during a press briefing explaining the reasons behind the impeachment.

Shoneye Damilola Kayode, a member of the Ogun State House of Assembly representing Obafemi-Owode Constituency, spoke on behalf of the lawmakers. He stated, “Oluomo came on board; we never wanted him, but the leadership of the party thought because he was once a speaker, we should allow him to continue as a speaker.” The impeachment reflects a contentious leadership situation and underscores the concerns over financial mismanagement within the Assembly.
