On Tuesday, the House of Representatives advanced a bill for the second stage of consideration, aiming to institute state police across Nigeria. Championed by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu and supported by 14 colleagues, the bill proposes constitutional amendments enabling states to create their own law enforcement agencies.
During the plenary session, legislators deliberated on the bill’s merits. Kalu, representing Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, implored his fellow lawmakers to prioritize national security over political interests, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding both citizens and the nation.
