Chief of Staff to the President (Nigeria)

Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, refuted reports on Wednesday that a budget of N10 billion was set aside for the renovation of his official residence in Abuja. Contrary to claims that part of the N27.7 trillion budget presented by Tinubu to the National Assembly was allocated for this purpose, Gbajabiamila clarified that the 2024 Appropriation Bill contains no provision for the Chief of Staff’s residence.

He emphasized that the mentioned sums are intended for the renovation of the Presidential Quarters and the Vice President’s Lodge, as well as for upgrading communication facilities and providing vehicles for Presidency staff.

Gbajabiamila underscored the transparency of President Tinubu’s administration, welcoming scrutiny of government expenditure. He urged responsible public debate based on facts rather than misinformation. The Chief of Staff emphasized the need for accurate information in discussions about government actions.

In a separate development, Vice President Kashim Shettima criticized comments by the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who questioned the proposed N15.5 billion budget allocated by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) for the construction of a new official residence for the Vice President. Shettima accused Obi of engaging in armchair criticism and dancing “naked in the public square” to attract attention.

The release clarified that the plan for the Vice President’s official residence, funded in the 2024 budget, originated from the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, not the current administration led by President Tinubu.
