Police Ensuring Fairness in Erisco Tomato Case

The Nigeria Police Force is firm in its commitment to ensuring fairness and upholding the law in the ongoing Erisco Tomato case. In a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on X, this commitment was emphasized.

Adejobi’s statement cautioned against the spread of false information and attempts to sway public opinion. It also condemned the use of crowdfunding to manipulate legal processes, emphasizing the importance of enforcing existing laws to address violations and misinformation on social media.

Titled “ERISCO TOMATOES MATTER: OUR CYBERCRIME ACT IS POTENT, EFFECTIVE”, the statement reaffirmed the police’s dedication to following the rule of law. It highlighted the involvement of Mrs. Chioma, who is accused of breaching the Cybercrime Act of 2015, and stressed the need for impartiality in legal proceedings to maintain the integrity of the justice system.

This case highlights the importance of enforcing laws like the Cybercrime Act to address violations and misinformation on social media. The Nigeria Police is committed to enforcing laws fairly and transparently, without bias.

The suspect is urged to stop evading court appearances and allow justice to proceed impartially. It’s crucial for all, especially social media influencers, to respect the rule of law and avoid prejudice in this and similar cases.

Last September, the CEO of Erisco Foods threatened a N5 billion lawsuit against Okoli for her negative review of the company’s Tomato Paste.
