Dozens of lives were tragically claimed in eastern Burkina Faso as assailants launched a deadly assault on a mosque, as reported by local and security authorities to AFP on Monday. The attack occurred in Natiaboani around 5:00 am on Sunday, with armed individuals unleashing violence upon the mosque, resulting in numerous fatalities, according to a security source. The victims, predominantly men who had gathered for morning prayers, were all of the Muslim faith, as highlighted by a local resident familiar with the incident.
This brutal assault coincided with another horrifying event in the north of the country, where at least 15 civilians lost their lives during Sunday mass in a Catholic church. The parallel tragedies underscore the escalating violence and instability gripping various regions of Burkina Faso, casting a somber shadow over communities and intensifying concerns for security and peace.
