President Bola Tinubu has instructed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to thoroughly investigate the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation’s finances. This directive came in a statement released on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale. Alongside this directive, Minister Betta Edu has been suspended due to a N585 million scandal within the ministry. The suspension coincides with the questioning of Edu’s predecessor, Sadiya Umar-Farouq, by EFCC detectives for approximately 12 hours. The EFCC is probing an alleged N37.1 billion laundering during Umar-Farouq’s term through a contractor named James Okwete.
