In a significant crackdown on terrorism across northern Nigeria, military operations in the past week resulted in the deaths of 188 terrorists and the arrest of 330 individuals, according to the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba. Additionally, troops rescued 133 kidnapped persons during these operations, reflecting a concerted effort to combat insecurity and protect citizens.
Maj. Gen. Buba emphasized the military’s resolute commitment to defeating terrorism and ensuring the safety of citizens. He underscored the heavy toll imposed on terrorist groups, with numerous leaders neutralized and a robust stance maintained against terrorist activities.
In the Niger Delta region, troops also engaged in anti-oil theft operations, preventing an estimated sum of N637,710,310.00 worth of theft and arresting 36 perpetrators. Furthermore, significant seizures of stolen crude oil, illegal refining equipment, and weaponry were reported, demonstrating a multifaceted approach to addressing security challenges.
Between January and March 2024, the military recorded substantial successes in its anti-terrorism efforts, with 2,351 terrorists killed and 2,308 arrested, underscoring ongoing efforts to maintain peace and stability in the region.
